XML & Aastra SIP Phones

eXtensible Markup Language (XML) is a widely adopted, open standard for delivering information to any Web interface, and since Aastra SIP Phones run over a data network infrastructure, software developers can just as easily create integrated voice and data applications for Aastra SIP Phones using XML as they can for any Internet application.

All Aastra SIP Phones are XML-enabled. The display and keypad on Aastra SIP phones can be used to easily access and display data from the XML applications. The Internet language lets the enterprise take the data from common "back office" business applications and deliver select information to the screens of Aastra SIP Phones.

Unlike desktop computers, which are typically used to display content, office phones are more ubiquitous, always ready and user-friendly, helping provide productivity applications everywhere in the company. Employees who do not have their own PC, such as factory workers, warehouse foremen, or maintenance personnel, can use Aastra SIP Phones for applications that otherwise would be inaccessible.

XML Applications

Aastra XML-enabled SIP phones connect business processes and people to critical information by providing display-based access to services and applications. Users can easily access information and perform tasks from their Aastra SIP Phones including:

  • General: weather reports, traffic reports/alerts, stock prices/alerts, worldwide time/temperature, current gas prices, local movie times, upcoming movies/concerts, send SMS Messages, reverse public directory lookup, area code lookup, RSS feed…
  • General Office: access corporate directories, available vacation/personal/sick days, 401K balance, contact center metrics, Clock-In/Clock-Out, track packages…
  • Travel/Hotel: make dining reservations, set up wake-up calls, purchase attraction tickets, get directions, check on flight status, check current balance, order In-Room dining, extend stay, schedule Airport Shuttle, request Housekeeping/Engineering, leave Feedback…
  • Health Care: manage appointment, appointment reminders, take-your-medicine reminders, order hospital meals, check pharmacy inventory…
  • Education: take student attendance, schedule classes, request dorm room change, notify school closing, access to parent contact info…
  • Retail: check customer order on the inventory…
